FreeScreenLock

FreeScreenLock is a simple application for locking windows desktops. Strictly speaking the application is not of much use in Win 2000 and XP, because both OSs have a screen locking facility built in. However, there are times when it's useful to have a screen lock when it isn't possible to use the windows standard one. For example computers in web cafés, and office or academic PCs have the standard screen lock disabled. The screen lock is also unavailable while running BartPE.

FreeScreenLock is small and does not require any installation. To lock the screen simply run the application, and you will be prompted for a password. Pressing the "Lock" button will lock the screen. To unlock the screen, simply click the mouse, and type the matching password in the window which appears.

You can choose to run the lock in opaque mode - where all the monitors will be blacked over, or in transparent mode where the underlying windows will be visible. If you choose to lock the screen opaquely, you can choose to show information text. The information text will inform other users of how long the desktop have been locked which may prevent them from force restarting the machine.
